Westfälische Sportbootzentrum – Marina Rünthe
Formerly where sand, gravel and coal were shipped, today the Westfälische Sportbootzentrum – Marina Rünthe boating centre and marina attracts more than just boating enthusiasts with 310 boat slips. Its Mediterranean flair brings holiday spirit to many visitors. The beautiful promenade offers a great view of the boats docked in the harbour. Along the banks once can find walking and cycling paths, water sport facilities, and a fitness centre with a badminton hall and adjoining “Am Yachthafen” restaurant. Floating in the middle of the water is the “swimming” bistro Achterdeck, which gives visitors a magnificent view of the entire harbour during the summer season. "Neumann's Nauticus Restaurant & Hotel" at the Marina Rünthe pampers its guests with a stylish, maritime ambience. The “Hafencafé” offers smaller dishes and home-made cakes all day long, while the “Gate to Asia” provides show cooking with Chinese, Mongolian and Indian specialities. Other tourist facilities at the boat harbour include an RV park (www.wohnmobilstellplatz-bergkamen.de), a wedding chapel for harbour-view nuptial settings, public toilets and an info terminal for tourists. The Bergkamen tour guides offer regular tours of the marina.
Besides modern and handicap-accessible boat slips with provisions and disposal options, skippers will find all the necessary services, amenities and infrastructure like a crane, petrol station, modern toilet facilities, winter slips and the option to have repairs made by local businesses (link: www.yachthafen-marina-ruenthe.de). The Marina Rünthe is the starting point for interesting tours into the Ruhrgebiet, Münsterland or Mecklenburg-Vorpommern regions.
Directly adjacent to the yacht harbour, the Beversee nature preserve invites visitors for long walks. Boat tours of the Datteln-Hamm Canal can be taken from the Marine Rünthe on the “Santa Monika III” and the “MS Hildegard”. Those without their own boat can rent one from a number of boat charter businesses and explore the aquatic terrain of the Ruhrgebiet. A number of boating schools offer the opportunity to obtain a boating licence.
