“Naturally” Bergkamen – the Beversee and Lippeaue nature preserves and the Bergehalde Großes Holz
Nature enthusiasts will love the diverse flora and fauna of the Lippeaue and Beversee nature preserves as well as the Bergehalde Großes Holz. All three areas have attractive hiking and cycling trails as well as lovely places for picnics in the great outdoors. The Lippeaue is worth visiting due to the rare bird species and the nature restoration of the Lippe river, while the painstakingly designed landscape of the Bergehalde Großes Holz delights visitors with a legendary view from the Adener Höhe far into the Münsterland and the city of Hamm. During winter, you can even see the snow-covered mountains of the Sauerland region and, during good weather, the spire of the Dortmund Fernsehturm tower.
Bergkamen's mining era left behind significant traces in nature. For example, the Beversee was created due to mining subsidence, and the Bergehalde Großes Holz owes its existence to the mining material deposited there. Today, this mining history is barely noticeable, and the nature areas are popular destinations for families, seniors and athletic types.
Go ahead and marvel at the beautiful panorama that links industrial culture with experiences in nature and follow the route of industrial culture to Bergehalde Großes Holz or the route of industrial nature to the Beversee nature preserve.
